Chatting with one of the Queen's of "B" girls basketball, Manson's Katie Davis-Smith. Her 1998 State "B" Tournament was one for the history books...Davis-Smith broke several state-records including:
- Scoring 50 pts in a game vs Wahkiakum,
- Scoring 138 points in 4 games in the 1998 tournament,
- Making 18 free throws in a single contest vs Wahkuiaum
- Had 59 rebounds in the tournament (14.8 rpg average)
Katie was a 3-sport star at Manson, playing volleyball and basketball and softball. Davis-Smith led Manson to a 7th place finish in volleyball her senior year.
After High School, she played at St Mary’s College from 1998-2003. She red-shirted her freshman year after tearing her ACL for the second time. Recovering from that injury, Davis helped the Gaels to 2 NCAA tournaments and 2 WNIT tournaments.
Davis-Smith was an All-WCC All-Academic and WCC All-League Selection. She graduated with a BS in Economics and Business Administration and received her MBA in 2004 also from St Mary’s.
Katie is married to Kyle Smith, the current Men’s Basketball Coach at Washington State University, and have three sons…Rocco, Bo, and Luke.
