I met Denis through my friend Freddie Van Rensburg whom is a fellow podcaster and a addictions specialist. Denis was a guest speaker at Freddie's Centenary (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIXDuxOI7vI). As a doctor and surgeon, it was surprising for me to hear Denis talk a lot about spirituality. I always thought doctors would be more concerned with biology and the physical dimension. Freddie introduced us and Denis invited me for a tour of the Chris Barnard Hospital (https://www.netcarehospitals.co.za/Hospital/Netcare_Christiaan_Barnard_Memorial_Hospital) which blew me away as he showed me the facilities, the people and thoughts behind some of the building and departments as well a presentation slideshow of his work.
Our conversation centers around the following topics: 1) How South Africa is trying to establish the best trauma system for all. 2) South Africa state of violence 3) Accidents in life and their consequences for the victims 4) How bad accidents can bring a change in the view on life in patients 5) How life can bring amazing gifts if we don't resist what is happening to us 6) Meditation practice and the benefits for a good life 7) The changes in the world today 8) How today we are in the best and the worst of times 9) Living consciously
