This week on Subject To Blackout, Mike and I revisit, not only the 2004 Indie classic Garden State, but also it's fantastic and seminal soundtrack.
Zach Braff got a lot of shit back in the day for being some twee, hipster asshole but the reality is that his writing and directorial debut should be viewed as a classic of its era. Sweet and funny to serious and introspective, Garden State isn't a perfect movie, but it is a great one.
If you haven't seen it recently, it's definitely worth another spin. The soundtrack also was one of the most important mix tapes of it's generation, introducing many musicians to a much larger audience and helped to create a cultural shift in pop music.
Lastly, I tell Mike about the wonders of the Starz series Party Down and why - if you have Hulu - you should watch this late aughts classic.
