Season 5 is here! And what better way to start than to review a show - FX's Under the Banner Heaven, starring Andrew Garfield as a Mormon Detective (Jeb) investigating a double homicide - a Mormon wife (Brenda) and daughter (Erica). The suspects are all Mormons, making the Detective's job in some ways easy and other ways hard as he navigates his faith and the faith of those who may just be murderers. In this season's inaugural episode, we discuss the first two episodes - When God Was Love and Rightful Place. David has a theory on who may have killed Brenda and Erica and suspects that the killers will use their belief in God to justify it. And Jen offers her cult experience as a way to bring color and understanding to the two juxtaposed sides of Mormonism that tugs at Jeb and Allen, the husband of Brenda.
