Scott Smith talks about his career as a professional photographer in Durango and his involvement and passion for the growing public art scene.

Scott Smith, a graduate of Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO started his professional photography studio, Imagesmith Photography, 30 years ago and it has been growing ever since. He shares with us the evolution of his career and the path on which he has found himself by doing what he loves, spending time outside snowboarding while shooting images of some of the world’s best professional athletes. His work has taken him to many mountain locations around the world including some of the highest mountains in India and Alaska. His work has been recognized internationally and has appeared in many well known magazines and publications such as Powder Magazine, National Geographic Adventure, Outside Magazine and Smithsonian among many others. The other half of his work takes place in his indoor studio and has also been hugely successful bringing in a list of over 40 clients with product and portrait work. More recently though Scott has been a driving force behind the growing public art scene in town. His passion and enthusiasm for the Durango art scene and the incredible potential that exists is something that he donates much of his extra time helping to build a vibrant community. He is the Chairman of the Creative Economy Commission and on the board of the Durango Creative District. Through an increased Lodger’s tax, the city has been able to support artists needing extra funding to help bring their art to the next level.
