The Russian Justice Ministry has designated Meduza’s co-founder and publisher, Galina Timchenko, as a “foreign agent.”
A statement published Friday on the ministry’s official website accuses Timchenko of working with existing “foreign agents,” speaking out against Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine, and spreading “false information” about the Russian government and military.
Meduza has been on Russia’s “foreign agents” registry since April 2021. In January 2023, the Russian Prosecutor General designated Meduza as an “undesirable” organization, effectively banning it from operating inside Russia.
