CA’s Plastic Bag Ban and Recycling

A decade ago, the California Legislature banned single use plastic bags in an effort to limit the state’s plastic pollution. That ban led to the emergence of “reusable” plastic bags, which are not recyclable, and California saw a rise in plastic bag waste by nearly 50 percent. Gov. Newsom recently signed a new plastic bag ban to address it. Zoe Heller is the director of CalRecycle, the state agency that oversees recycling. She’ll explain the effect of the new ban, as well as discuss what is actually recyclable when you throw them in those blue bins.

Sacramento Chef Competes on ‘Hell’s Kitchen’

A Sacramento native is among the latest contestants to face the scrutiny and temper of celebrity star chef Gordon Ramsay on the newest season of Fox’s reality cooking show, Hell’s Kitchen. Anthony Vo, Executive Chef at Sonrisa Senior Living talks about his experience facing Ramsay’s famous temper, as well as his life and culinary journey, which started while growing up with his grandparents in Citrus Heights.

The Hella Kind Comedy Show

Comedian Kiry Shabazz is blowing up with millions of views online, and this weekend he returns to Sacramento for a special cause. The Hella Kind Comedy Show is a fundraiser for the Sacramento Kindness Campaign, which helps kids and their families with housing and other basic needs so kids can stay in school and graduate. It takes place Sunday, Sept. 29 at Sacramento’s Punchline.
