Massacre has undergone a major transformation in the lead up to their first album in seven years, the gloriously titled Resurgence, which is due out on October 22.
The most significant of which is the return to the fold of vocalist Kam Lee, an intensely passionate man that places the needs of the band and their legion of fans above all others.
It is almost a fairytale return, but as we know fairytales cannot and do not exist in the realms of death metal music.
HEAVY caught up with Kam for an enlightening chat earlier this week.
"Resurgence is more than just the title of the album. It's the attitude, it's everything in one word. It's a resurgence of old school death metal. We're bringing back that old school death metal style, the sound, it's a resurgence for myself because I'm back in Massacre after so many years (laughs), almost... I can say almost thirty years because I was only in Massacre shortly after 1992 for a stint for the horrible Promise album, which I quit during post production. I walked out of the studio of that, and I haven't been in Massacre since back then. I did a little tour in 2007 but never really recorded anything and I wasn't back in Massacre until recently - 2017 really is when I was asked to come back. It's a very convoluted history with this band, it's been crazy, but I feel now it's gonna be done right because for the first time since the 80s I'm back in the drivers seat. I have more creative control and I think this album hopefully proves that maybe having me in the position I'm at and in now is the right position for the band and should have been the way it was at the time."
