Type 2 Diabetes Hypoglycemic and the effects. Type II diabetes is rapidly becoming the most epidemic chronic degenerative disease in modern times. Because of the increased number of people suffering from this condition it may be very possible that restrictions on such things as operating heavy machinery or even driving automobiles may eventually be put into place. While elevated blood sugar does not usually pose a direct threat to the operation of machinery unless it is excessively high, the opposite low blood sugar can be potentially dangerous. Low blood sugar or hypoglycemia can come on rapidly in many cases without warning at all. If the low blood sugar episode is severe and blood sugar falls significantly confusion, disorientation, uncontrolled shakiness and perspiration, and even blackouts can occur. The hypoglycemic episode is greatly enhanced in someone using oral medications to increase insulin production or by using insulin by injection. In order for the diabetic to avoid hypoglycemic episodes, which can put them and others at risk, it is important to monitor blood sugar regularly and consume adequate carbohydrates to offset the effects of the medication if you choose to take it. Because more and more people are coming down or developing type II diabetes due to the over processed highly refined carbohydrate diet it is possible that one day individuals may have restrictions on such things as operating machinery and even driving automobiles because of the potential risk that a sudden onset hypoglycemic episode can produce. Just like DWI or driving while intoxicated, for example it is illegal to drink alcohol and drive, just as it is illegal to smoke marijuana and drive, and just like it is illegal to take certain prescription drugs and drive, I predict in the future it will be illegal to be hangry and drive or the opposite, driving while hypoglycemic, the insurance companies always review and considering risk, and as you listen to this podcast are actually trying to figure out how to calculate this factor in. I assure you this will happen within 10 to 20 years. Now that being said if all the cars on the road are self-driving then my whole premise goes out the window. But, if not, it is coming.
