In this doula episode, Ashley and I are opening up a conversation with doulas on autonomy and it may get spicey. If you listen as parents – it will open up some questions for your doula as to what type of advocacy they are offering you for the birth room. Be open to having a straightforward conversation with your doula and practice the skills you will need for parenting.

This episode contains many of the reasons we are hosting an advocacy training in October by Traci Doula Called Keeping Your Power®. To join us, click the link below in the notes or find the registration information on mine or Traci’s socials.

Autonomy doesn’t only apply to the families that we serve. It begins with us.

Where are WE with our personal autonomy? Are we able to model autonomy for our clients if we are wishy washy with it in our own lives? How do WE avoid hard conversations? What methods are there to turn our fear of confrontation into humans just having conversations about hard things? How do we teach that? What are we doing in our doula practices that is working or not working very well when it comes to autonomy? We talk about it today and want to hear from you.

Bottom line - Are we able to remind parents of the empowerment they already have within to say yes or no if WE are not tapped into our ability to do the same?

Let’s reclaim our voice, make choices that we stand by and ask the hard questions with the risk of not getting the answer we desire. We will live through it AND can make a different choice if that answer doesn’t work for us.

These topics and skills are not covered in most of our doula trainings. Getting connected with other doula communities and continuing education are some great ways to refine what we provide our families. This episode is a must-listen for doulas seeking to enhance their practice and better support the families they serve.
