×Paul has a lot to say about generosity, but not just of our pocketbook, but of our hearts themselves .
Why does Paul do what he does? If it's not approval of the Corinthians, or his own preferences, then what exactly is it?
Imagine pouring everything you've got into a community only to have that community question everything good about you including your love for them. See how Paul deals with it in 2 Corinthians.
Now that Paul's clarified the incredible power of God's great news, he gets into some nitty gritty of living among a community of people who have been saved by this good news
If the gospel is the power of God, what now?
There is no room for elitism in the church. We are all here by the Grace and Sovereignty of God. You did not make it any easier for God to love you. He just does!
A before and after picture of the believer. The biggest thing we forget? You were not actually free to do what you wanted before you became a believer. You were enslaved by sin.
If Grace is always big enough to cover all our sin, why then not just sin to get more grace? Amazingly Paul's answer is not that they are wrong about Grace, but that they are wrong about themselves.
The beautiful inclusive nature of the Gospel
Hundreds return from Pentecost to their homes in Rome and faithfully keep functioning as the church but what do they really understand? Paul isn't entirely sure but he's heard good things. One thing he knows: self righteousness is one of our biggest enemies and Paul is working hard to make sure it isn't derailing the church in Rome!…
Paul wraps up this complicated letter with some simple focus.
Paul continues to encourage the Corinthian church members to think of someone other than themselves when exercising their gifts.
What do Paul's teachings on head coverings, meat sacrificed to idols, communion, and the rights of apostles have in common? Well, check this out to find out! Paul is giving the antidote to division in a church and here it is.
Bringing order out of chaos
Paul continus the conplex discussion on freedom and love with a personal example, then circling back to the questio about eating meat sacrificec to idols.
How to live the Christian life in an extremely oppositional culture.
Even in a church with as much struggle as the Corinthians, Paul wants to affirm their authority, wisdom and sanctification in Christ.
The Corinthian Culture so presses in upon the church that they are tempted to see basic ideas like power and wisdom in all the wrong ways. In truth we struggle with some of the same idea.
The Corinthian church had a tough time as a radical minority in a strong culture. Dividing into factions and tribes only made their difficulties greater. Paul hopes to strengthen them by reminding them of their unity.
Paul wraps up his second journey and begins his third. Meanwhile, Priscilla and Aquila set Apollos straight and he begins his first missionary journey.

After getting run out of Thessalonica, Paul steps "off the beaten path" to share with the noble minded Bereans, and then it's off to Athens where the love "do nothing but talk about ideas all day."
To circumcise or not to circumcise, that is the question.
How should we related as a community, especially with those who are displaying acts of the flesh instead of fruit of the spirit?
What is wrong with the "adjusted Gospel" they are adopting? Isn't it close enough? (Hint: The answer is no)
Paul spent so much time with the Churches in Galatia and now in what seems like no time at all to Paul, they've adopted a false view of the Gospel. How could this happen he wonders as he writes them with warnings, encouragements, and corrections .
Paul and Barnabas and the first missionary journey of Paul.
God begins to make clear his intentions regarding the gentiles.
Luke is once again our guide on this leg of the journey and we get to meet some important new characters as we travel through these first infant days of the church.
The Church starts really well, basically picking up where Jesus left off.
Luke has more to say!

We've all heard the story and seen the pageants. Mary and Joseph, strangers in Bethlehem, are rushing to find a hotel while Mary's in labor but there is no vacancy in any of the inns. Eventually they end up in a stable outside in the dead of winter somewhere, and this is where the shepherds, three kings and the drummer boy find them that night. But is that really how it happened? Join us and find out how Luke and Matthew really describe the events.…

Some say you can tell a great piece of writing from its first line. It's in that first line that an author sets the tone, sometimes even revealing the purpose of his writing. So as we begin our chronological walk through the Gospels what do the first lines of each of these authors tell us about their agenda and audience? Quite a lot actually. Come join us as Matthew, Mark, Luke and John beocme our tour guides through this next leg of the journey. As we go they will point out the landmarks they think most important for us to know.…

What is the deal with the Dead Sea scrolls anyway?
What happened between the old and new testament? Where did the Pharisees and Sadducees come from? Who are the Maccabees? What are the Essenes? What are the dead sea scrolls? What is the Septuagint? Why is the Bible comprised of some books and not others? Who decided? Who is Herod? All these and more will be part of our journey for the next few weeks.…
The last two books of the Old Testament in our Chronological Bible although truly difficult to tell chronologically where they go. Nonetheless, they share similar themes of calling for reformation among the priests in particular. and they do signal the beginning of a new era for the jews where they recognize their ability to flourish with or without the temple; a shifting of the priesthood role and the emergence in the coming centuries of new groups which we see in the New Testament (pharisees, saccucees, Essenes, Zealots, rabbis...)…
Nehemiah guides us almost all the way to the end of the Old Testament as we wrap up his bittersweet narrative.
Nehemiah is an extremely focused and disciplined leader. Somehow he knows exactly when to respond to distractions and when not to. Chapters 4- 6 show us what a great example Nehemiah is and how we can respond in our own lives, whether in leadership or not.
WE wrap up the book of Ezra in his own words.
This amazing story, unique in that it never mentions God by name, is one of the strongest pictures of God's involvement in human lives, in all scripture. And it's funny
Jesus goes to Ephraim to lay low for a bit, but that doesn't mean he stops ministering. Of course he continues to teach and minister.
It's instructive to watch how Jesus interacts with some of his best friends during their time of grief. It's interesting to note how he responds to each according to their grief and need.
Jesus tells two of his strangest stories.
Jesus explains his priorities.
Jesus says he's the shepherd and the pharisees are sheep stealers!
Who's the blind man now?
Jesus gives a few reasons not to fret.
Beware the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy!
Luke takes us into some last days priorities for Jesus
Jesus is making it hard for people to remain neutral about Him. His claims are becoming too large!
Jesus continues to turn up the heat, leaving no room for a neutral opinion on himself. People must decide if he's a mad man and blasphemer of the worst kind, or someone to worship.
John begins to reveal the confusing and conflicting attitude of the crowd towards Jesus. Things are heating up and Jesus is even beginning to caution people who want to join him that it's a very serious moment.
What does Jesus say about Hell? What does he say about church authority?

Jesus sends out His apostles to do the works He's been doing.
The pace of Jesus ministry amps up with some highly public very dramatic miracles which show not only his authority over all things but also his tendency towards acts of compassion in His miracles.
Jesus often uses parables to shake the confidence of those who are convinced they know exactly what the Kingdom of Heaven looks like. Possibly you don't know everything, says Jesus. So here's some weird ways to think about it! And it turns out so much of it applies to our own misconceptions perhaps.
Why does Jesus speak in Parables? Why does he reserve the explanations only for the closest disciples? What should we be learning from the Parables? In what ways is the sower of the seed parable a key to the other parables?

Remember John the Baptist? Remember he got arrested? Whatever happened to him anyway...oh, here he is!
We wrap up the typical sermon of Jesus and see just how atypical His message is. Few people will accept it but for those who do there is blessing and stability and relationship with God.
Jesus continues the sermon on the mount, asking, "What are you devoted to?" and pointing out that what you are devoted to is what ultimately becomes your master.
What are we going to do with the exhortations to turn the other cheek, or to walk two miles with the oppressive force which forces us to walk one?
Jesus messages are both encouraging and challenging, populist and traditional. It's easy to hear what matches your worldview and dispense with the parts that don't. But the Beatitudes teach us that the Gospel is for everyone. Access is limited only by one's own recognition of whether they need it or not. There is only one door to the Kingdom of God but it is the same door with equal access regardless of race, gender, talent, strength, financial status or anything else.…

Zechariah continues to be our guide this week as he, through visions and object lessons much like Ezekiel, continues to encourage the Israelites to embrace their freedom and get that temple built! Even as he does this though he continues to remind them of what's even more important to who they are.
Zechariah, in the style of Ezekiel with many visions and visual lessons, continues to encourage the Israelites to start back up with the temple work.
It's been 16 years since the Jews returned to Jerusalem specifically to rebuild the temple, but no work has actually been done for a decade and a half. Haggai and Zechariah are sent by God to confront this neglect. How will the Israelites respond this time?
