Church Life “Love in Action, pt. 1” (Acts 11:27-30) - In Word (vv. 27-28) 1 Jo. 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 1 Thess. 5:20-21 20 Do not despise prophecies, 21 but test everything; hold fast what is good. - In Deed (vv.29-30) 1 Jo. 3:17-18 17 But if anyone has the world's goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God's love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. Ja.2:15-16 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[ is that? Heb. 13:1-2, 16-17 1 Let brotherly love continue. 2 Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.... 16 Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God. 17 Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. 2 Cor. 8:13-14 13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness 14 your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness. 2 Cor. 9:6-7 6 The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.…
Church Life “Gospel Grace and the New Covenant, Pt. 2” (Acts 10:24-43) A Divine Appointment (vv. 24-33) Eph. 2:14-16,19 14 For he himself is our peace, who has made us both one and has broken down in his flesh the dividing wall of hostility 15 by abolishing the law of commandments expressed in ordinances, that he might create in himself one new man in place of the two, so making peace, 16 and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility... 19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, A Unifying Message (vv. 34-35) Ro.10:12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. Gal. 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. A Gospel Testimony (vv. 36-43) - Historical apologetic (vv. 36-38) - H istorical Eye-Witness Accounts (39-41) 1 Jo. 1:1-4 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And we are writing these things so that our[ a ] joy may be complete. Lu. 24:45-48 45 Then he opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, 47 and that repentance for[ c ] the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. 48 You are witnesses of these things.…
Church Life Church Life : “Grace and the New Covenant” (Acts 10:1-16) Gentile Vision (vv. 1-8) Jo. 6:44, 65 Hebrew Vision (vv. 9-16) Ma. 7:15,21-23 15 There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.”.. 21 For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22 coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. 23 All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” Gen. 12:2-3 2 And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Ro. 7:6 But now we are released from the law, having died to that which held us captive, so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written code.…
Sanctity of Life Sunday “Justice Ministry” (Pro. 31:8-9) Mic. 6:8 He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? That’s a command and its others oriented. Isa. 1:17 learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow’s cause. Where do we start on this? Speak Justice for the Unborn (v.8) What does it mean to be human? 2 prevailing views: Person – we are valuable (sanctity of life) by virtue of the kind of being or creature we are, which is an image-bearer of almighty God. Performance – being human is nothing special, we’re probably random accidents of evolution and what matters most, is what you do, or how self-aware you are. The Prolife Argument is very basic and logical: 1. Intentionally killing an innocent human being is a moral wrong. 2. Abortion on demand is the intentional killing of an innocent human being. 3. Therefore, abortion is a moral wrong. Seek Justice for the Unborn (v.9) Psa. 82:3-4 3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. 4 Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” We want to convince people to do 4 things: 1. Treasure human life (womb to tomb). 2. Reject abortion as the moral wrong (sin) that it is. 3. Experience God's forgiveness (hope of the gospel). 4. Rescue the innocent, one mother and one baby at a time (obey the command- “the weak and needy”). 1 attachment…
Church Life "Mi ssion Possible” Acts 9:26-31 Former Persecutor (vv. 26-27) 1 Pet. 1:14-16 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” Ro. 6:1-2,6-7 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?... 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin. Future Preacher (vv. 28-31)…

But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, 15...... , that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. An Apologetic Ministry (vv. 20, 22) Psa. 110:1,5-6a The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool…. 5 The Lord is at your right hand; he will shatter kings on the day of his wrath. 6 He will execute judgment among the nations, ” ( 53:3-12 ). Jo. 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. Paul in Col. 1:15a-16, 19 . 15 He is the image of the invisible God, ....... 16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.... 19 For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, A Risky Ministry (vv. 23-25)…
New Year’s, 2025: “Soul Care is Discipleship” Hebrews 10:24-25 Life Together (vv.24-25 a-b) - Call to Hospitality 1 Pet. 4:7,9 “ The end of all things is at hand… Show hospitality to one another without grumbling.” Because that’s what church life together should look like. Ro. 12:13 “ Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality.” Care for One Another (v.25 c-d) Gal. 6:1-2 1 Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 1 Thess. 5:14 “ we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted (depressed), help the weak, be patient with them all.” 2 Tim. 3:16-17 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God[ b ] may be complete, equipped for every good work. 5 Things They never say…. - They never mention God - especially Jesus and the HS, the comforter. - They never mention our spiritual condition (sin). - They never mention that suffering is meaningful within God’s plan of mercy and judgment. - They never mention that God really does forgive sinners who repent and believe in his Son. Never mention the good news. - They never mention that all human beings are meant to become worshippers of God in Christ and be reconciled to God. What do we say then? Ro. 15:14 I myself am satisfied about you, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able to instruct one another. Col. 3:13, .. bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 16 a-b Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom.. 2 Cor. 1:3-4 3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. Final scripture on this… Ja. 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.…
“ Blessing From the Christmas Tree” ( Gal. 3:13-14 ) The Curse (v.13) Ro. 5:12-13a 12 Therefore, just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men[ a ] because all sinned— 13 for sin indeed was in the world before the law was given Gen. 3:16-17 16 To the woman he said, “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.” 17 And to Adam he said, “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it, ’cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; Deut. 28:1-2 “And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Ro. 2:15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them . Our conscience confirms the moral law that God has written on the heart of every single person. The Blessing (v.14) 1 Pet. 2:24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness.…
Church Life “ The Road to Conversion” Acts 9:1-9 Death and Darkness (vv. 1-2) Life and Light (vv. 3-9) Acts 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed. Jo. 10:2-3 2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. . Jo. 9:39-41 39 Jesus said, “For judgment I came into this world, that those who do not see may see, and those who see may become blind.” 40 Some of the Pharisees near him heard these things, and said to him, “Are we also blind?” 41 Jesus said to them, “If you were blind, you would have no guilt; but now that you say, ‘We see,’ your guilt remains. Eph. 2:1-5 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. 4 But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— Eph. 2:8-9 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 1 Tim. 1:13-16 13 though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, 14 and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. Your Conversion: Faith (Ma. 1:14; Jo. 3:16; Ro. 10:9; Eph. 2:8-9) Fruit (Mt. 7:17-21; Jo. 13:34-35; 15:4-6; Gal. 5:22-24; 1 Jo. 1:6-7; 2:28-29; 3:6-10) Fortitude (Ma. 13:13; 1 Cor. 15:1-2; Col. 1:21-23; 2 Tim. 4:7-8)…
Church Life “ Principalities and Powers” Acts 8:9-25 A Profession of Faith (vv. 9-13) Deut. 18:10-12a 10 For example, never sacrifice your son or daughter as a burnt offering.[ a ] And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, 11 or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead. 12 Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord. Mt. 24:24 , For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect. 2 Thess. 2:9-10 9 This man will come to do the work of Satan with counterfeit power and signs and miracles. 10 He will use every kind of evil deception to fool those on their way to destruction, because they refuse to love and accept the truth that would save them. Jo. 2:23-25 23 Because of the miraculous signs Jesus did in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many began to trust in him. 24 But Jesus didn’t trust them, because he knew all about people. 25 No one needed to tell him about human nature, for he knew what was in each person’s heart. A Possession of the Spirit (vv. 14-17) Ti. 3: 5 he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit. Col. 2:12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. Eph. 4:5 There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism ). A Punishment of a Sinner (vv. 18-25) 1 Tim. 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith . 2 Cor. 5:17 , if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come). We don’t see that here? 2 Cor. 11:14b-15 Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 15 So it is no wonder that his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. In the end they will get the punishment their wicked deeds deserve. Pro. 4:23 Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.…
