×Mateo Kovacic is the latest guest in the hot seat on the Official Man City Podcast… The Croatian midfielder joins hosts Sam Cox and FG as he returns for his second appearance on the podcast. Kovacic starts with a look back at his arrival in the summer of 2023 and what it was like joining a City team that had just landed the Treble. And he explains what it is like walking into a dressing room full of superstars having also done so at former clubs Inter, Real Madrid and Chelsea. In an incredible career, the 30-year-old has won the Champions League four times, La Liga and the Premier League as well as playing in a World Cup. But he also explains that he often focuses on the negatives of his game rather than looking back at his phenomenal achievements. And in another fascinating and wide-ranging chat, Mateo also talks about how the dynamic in the changing rooms has evolved over the years, scoring spectacular goals and some of the great players he’s shared the pitch with. Rebecca Knaak is the next guest in the hot seat on the Official Man City Podcast… A January arrival from Rosengard, the centre-back has seamlessly settled into life at the Club with commanding displays and heroic rearguard action. And in the latest instalment of the podcast, she joins hosts George Kelsey and Nedum Onuoha to discuss a variety of topics. Knaak begins by detailing her start to life at the Joie Stadium, who’s helped her settle and what she’s had to adjust to in England. She then discusses the highs and lows of the Manchester derby at the Etihad Stadium where she netted her first goal for the Blues in the narrow defeat to Marc Skinner’s side. Her instrumental role in us reaching the League Cup final is also high on the agenda and she reveals her feelings on a penalty decision given against her in the semi-final victory over Arsenal. Not only does Knaak speak about those subjects, but she also talks senior Germany debut, the city of Manchester and her sports psychology PhD studies. Learn more about your ad choices. We're bringing you an exclusive, unedited interview from our CityStories series, only on City+. We're going back to 1991 when a red card for goalkeeper Tony Coton meant striker Niall Quinn was forced to take his place. Up against Derby County who were on the brink of relegation, fan favourite Quinn had already scored an exquisite left-footed volley to give us the lead. However, Derby’s Dean Saunders was soon through on goal before Coton was deemed to have brought him down. With our No.1 given his marching orders and no substitute goalkeeper, Quinn took Coton’s shirt and gloves. The Ireland international’s first duty between the sticks was to face up to the resulting penalty. Incredibly, he saved the shot at full stretch to turn it behind for a corner. It inspired us to a victory on the day and even went some way to earning Quinn the Player of the Year award for that season! We sat with Niall to look back at this incredible moment, his time at The Club and hear his goalkeeping experience before going between the sticks for City. Learn more about your ad choices. City and Portugal defender Ruben Dias is the latest guest on the Official Man City podcast. A rock at the back for City since arriving in 2020, Dias has been integral to the most successful period in the Club's history. Dias has won all three Premier League titles he has competed for as well as an FA Cup, Carabao Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Champions League. The centre back particularly made an impact in his first campaign, winning the Club's Player of the Year trophy and the Premier League Player of the Season and FWA Footballer of the Year awards. Since then he has gone on to become one of the Club's five captains and a leader on and off the pitch whether wearing the armband or not. Dias has now played 156 times for City and is widely regarded as one of the best defenders in our history. Phil Foden says he can only ever see himself playing for City. The boyhood Blue, former Etihad ball-boy and Academy graduate revealed his dream of being a one-club player in the latest episode of the official Man City Podcast, ‘In Conversation With…’ Asked whether he’d ever considered playing anywhere else or even going out on loan when he was younger, Foden said: “No, honestly. I just always see myself as a City player. “I always just thought if I work hard enough and I know what my ability is about, I can push in the team and over time I started getting more minutes and now I'm probably getting the most minutes I've had this year “So yeah, I've worked really hard for it and it's thanks to the manager also for trusting me, so I have to thank the manager for that for trusting me and keeping me around.” The Academy pin-up boy, Foden is an inspiration for the youngsters coming through the ranks. And after watching three more graduates – Micah Hamilton, Oscar Bobb and Rico Lewis - star in the 3-2 win over Red Star Belgrade – he says nothing makes him happier than seeing others follow in his footsteps. Nathan Ake is the latest guest on the Official Man City Podcast. The Dutch international joined the Club in 2020 from Bournemouth and, over the following three years, has become a key figure in Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering side. His versatility, consistency and intelligence have been of immense value to a City side consistently challenging on multiple fronts, with Ake often called upon to play in a number of defensive roles. It hasn’t always been smooth sailing for the Dutch international though, and he discusses the important words of encouragement he received from Pep Guardiola after an injury-hit first season at the Etihad in 2020/21. The defender has more than repaid the manager’s faith during his time at the Club and played the full 90 minutes in our historic Champions League triumph over Inter in June. Unsurprisingly, the podcast also involves plenty of discussions around that momentous occasion, including the preparations for the game and the celebrations that followed! Finally, Ake also reveals which former City player comes out on top as his toughest opponent to date. It’s an episode not to be missed! Learn more about your ad choices.
