In this episode of #TNTalks, Emily Kittrell from NISTS checks in with three members of this year’s #TransferStudentWeek Planning Committee — Dr. Doreen Hatcher, Dr. Kelly Coke, and Tracey Sohner — to talk about what they have seen and how they have supported transfer students who navigated their transition between institutions during the COVID-19 pandemic. If you have been wondering how lockdown and virtual operations unfolded at other colleges and universities, tune in to the conversation to learn how three different institutions adapted to meet the needs of their transfer students.

For more than 25 years, Doreen Hatcher has served as a university administrator with a passion for helping students transition to college through meaningful engagement while finding a balance between school, life, and work. Currently, Dr. Hatcher is the director for Student Transition and Engagement Programs at Cal State Channel Islands.

Dr. Kelly Coke recently earned her doctorate in Organizational Leadership with a content area in Higher Education from Abilene Christian University in 2021. She currently serves as Instructor of Adult Education and Leadership Studies, Program Coordinator of Bachelor of General Studies, and Director of (Off Campus) Programs for A&M-Texarkana at Northeast Texas Community College and Paris Junior College.

Tracey Sohner is a Retention Specialist at Cal State Fullerton. She provides General Education Advising to students of all class levels and specialized support for at-risk, transfer, first-gen students, and freshman within the College of the Arts.
