#222: Robin Opie on Shot Put and How CrossFit Saved His Life
Manage episode 355651840 series 2808719
On Episode 222 I sit down with Robin Opie. Robin is a friend of mine and someone that I have gotten closer to during my time working with him at CrossFit Roots.
Robin is a small-town Kansas kid who ended up throwing Shot Put at a very high level at Princeton. He went into the corporate world where he worked at multiple companies before landing where he is today working for CrossFit HQ. But what inspired me most about this story was Robin's journey to finding CrossFit. In his own words, CrossFit saved his life.
And today we talk all about that story and how it got him off of the hampster wheel and day-to-day grind of the corporate world and investing more in his health and fitness. We talk about how, for years, he was reluctant to start anything to improve his health because he believed that if you weren't working all the time, then you weren't working hard enough. Robin explains that if he didn't get into CrossFit when he did that he was on a trajectory to weigh over 400 lbs. at this point in his life. It wasn't until his boss, Eric Roza, stepped in and paid for him to start going to CrossFit that things began to take a turn for the better. Now, Robin is hooked and the rest is history that is being written every single day.
I was inspired by this story and it reinforced to me the power of CrossFit. Robin's story is one that is happening at CrossFit boxes all around the world and one that everyone needs to hear. All it takes sometimes is a little nudge to change someone's life and put them on a trajectory to living a happy and healthy life. It's stories like these that fire me up every single day to go to work and do what I do.
Thank you all for listening and I hope that you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!
