In 2016, Yuriy Boyechko founded Hope for Ukraine to raise awareness for voices not heard in Ukraine, especially children affected by HIV and AIDS. Providing medical care for children with disabilities as well as food and clothing for families that live in extreme poverty. After Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Yuriy’s work surged in importance. Today he joins Jay Ruderman to talk about how the work of providing food and material support to those who remain in Ukraine has become harder as public interest in Ukraine has waned in the face of other international affairs. They also discuss the hard work of minimizing overhead costs at a nonprofit and Yuriy’s deep appreciation for the people still living in Ukraine. Three Areas of the Mind Cognitive Known for centuries as one of the three parts of the mind. Deals with knowledge, competencies and intellectual processes as measured on IQ or skills tests. Affective Known for centuries as one of the three parts of the mind. Pertains to or arises from feelings or emotions as measured on personality or social style instruments. An emotion or tendency (noun); to influence (verb). Conation/Conative Known for centuries as one of the three parts of the mind. Action derived from instinct; purposeful mode of striving, volition. Can be measured by the Kolbe A Index. Time Management/Allocation of Time Focus Time Time spent leading, producing, selling, and completing the tasks that are required for your role. Buffer Time Time spent preparing and learning. For many, this also includes mindless tasks such as clearing your inbox or catching up on some reading. Free Time Time spent relaxing, doing something fun, and hanging with friends and family. Non-work Conative Stress Terms Sync Spending your time and mental energy in the same way as your Kolbe A Result and Conative Profile Strain Conative Stress. A condition where a person’s sense of how a task needs to be performed is substantially different from his or her natural methods of problem solving. Conflict Conative Stress. A condition between two adults in a professional relationship with differing strengths. Burnout What happens when you constantly live in a state of strain. Over time, your become so far removed from your job that you feel a need to leave. Tension Conative Stress. A condition where an external evaluator’s sense of how a task needs to be performed is substantially different from the job-holder’s methods of problem solving. CCC and MGM Philosophies External Self Validation (ESV) What OTHERS are telling you. Your parents, friends, family, trusted teachers. While advice is usually given with the best intention, based on your conative mind, it may not be what’s right for you. Internal Self Validation (ISV) What is right for you, based on who you are. This combines your cognitive, affective and conative mind. What do I really believe in? Who do I want to help? What excites me about the future? Conative Theory and Assessments Kathy Kolbe The theorist behind the conative theory. The founder of Kolbe Corp and the one we love most! Kolbe A Index An instrument designed by Kathy Kolbe that quantifies the degree of natural talent an individual possesses in each Action Mode. Kolbe B Index An instrument designed by Kathy Kolbe that measures self-perceptions of job requirements. Kolbe C Index An instrument designed by Kathy Kolbe that indicates the conative requirements for success in a job as described by any third party, frequently a supervisor. Conative Action Modes Action Modes As identified by Kathy Kolbe, four distinct clusters of behavior able to be measured which result from engaging our striving instincts: Fact Finder, Follow Thru, Quick Start and Implementor. Fact Finder The Action Mode that deals with detail and complexity, providing the perspective of experience. Simplify CounterAction in Fact Finder, so think numbers 1-3. Words associated with Simplify are distill information, estimate, abbreviate background info, see the big picture, create metaphors, and condense data Explain ReAction in Fact Finder so think numbers 4-6.. Words associated with Explain are Paraphrase reports, reviewing data, editing details, rewrite and fact check written material, test analogies, clarify specifics, and use terms properly. Specify Initiating Action in Fact Finder, so think numbers 7-10. Words associated with Specify are research in depth, define objectives, assess probabilities, define the terms, and develop complex strategies. Follow Thru The Action Mode that deals with structure and order, and provides focus and continuity. Adapt CounterAction in Follow Thru, so think numbers 1-3. Words associated with Adapt are Shortcuts, revised approaches, interruptions, diversify, flexibility, and switching tasks frequently. Maintain ReAction in Follow Thru, so think numbers 4-6. Words associated with Maintain are adjusting procedures, monitor policies, realign objectives, coordinate schedules, draft guidelines, and maintain order. Systemetize Initiating Action in Follow Thru, so think numbers 7-10. Words associated with Systematize are creating a plan, coordinating needs, distinguishing patterns, designing systems, bringing focus and closure, organizing materials and information Quick Start The Action Mode that deals with originality, risk-taking and uncertainty. Stabilize The Counter Action in Quickstart, so think numbers 1-3. Words associated with Stabilize are Stay the same, protect the status quo, create precedents, clarify deadlines, and stick with what’s working. Modify ReAction in Quickstart, so think numbers 4-6. Words associated with Modify are Participate in experiments, try out new ideas, sustain innovations, navigate through uncertainty, reduce risks, use metaphors and adjust deadlines. Innovate Initiating Action in Quick Start, so think numbers 7-10. Words associated with Innovate are initiating change, improvise solutions, experiment, promoting alternatives, generate slogans, defy the odds, and brainstorm possibilities. Implementor The Action Mode that deals with physical space and ability to operate manually, and provides durability and a sense of the tangible. Envision CounterAction in Implementor, so think numbers 1-3. Words associated with Envision are creating virtual presentations, envisioning circumstances, finding intangible methods, jury-rigging fixes, simulate actual events, and conceptualizing solutions Restore ReAction in Implementor, so think numbers 4-6. Words associated with Restore are Relocate and refurbish, renovate structures, test ingredients, convert space, remove obstacles (real and imagined) and connect concrete paths Demonstrate Initiating Action in Implementor, so think numbers 7-10.. Words associated with Demonstrate are produce quality solutions, maximizing use of space, handle transportation and packaging, installing mechanical devises, building hand crafted models, and providing protection and safeguards Other Conative Terms CounterActions [1-3] Having 1-3 units of mental energy in any of the Action Modes indicating an ability to resist in the mode as needed. One of three equal Zones of Operation. Accommodate/ReActions A mid-range positioning of 4-6 units in any of the Action Modes® describing the ability to bridge differences between those on the outermost limits who initiate solutions or prevent problems in the same Action Mode. See ReAct. Initiating Actions [7-10] Having 7-10 units of mental energy in any of the Action Modes indicating an ability to insist in the mode as needed. One of 3 equal Zones of Operation. The instinctive way of approaching a solution to a problem through any Action Mode. A measurement of 7-10 units of conative energy in any Action Mode. Also referred to Facilitator A person with all four Action Modes in the mid-range. Also termed Mediator. Transition The loss of ability to express or recognize one’s own conative nature; loss of sense of self. Kolbe results are distinguished on the bar chart by an asterisk under the Action Mode(s) that is out of sync. Conative Clones People whose instinctive way of taking action is so similar that they replicate each other’s performance.…
