Dr. William Proctor, Principal Lecturer in Comics, Film & Transmedia at Bournemouth University wrote an excellent piece detailing the birth of the market during breaking of the Diamond monopoly in the Covid-19 shutdowns. Publishers Weekly had a great piece earlier this year about how retailers are dealing with the current changes to the comics distribution system. OUR GUEST Eisner- and Hugo- Award-winning writer Kelly Sue DeConnick got her start in comics adapting translations of manga on series like Slam Dunk , Black Cat , & Fruits Basket . She transitioned to writing her own comics in the mid-2000s. She is best known for her work on Captain Marvel , which saw Carol Danvers transition from Ms. Marvel to Captain Marvel. Her run is the inspiration for the MCU film. She also developed a following for her creator-owned work, such as Pretty Deadly and Bitch Planet . In addition to writing comics, Kelly Sue develops for television with her husband/partner Matt Fraction as Milkfed Criminal Masterminds and co-founded Good Trouble Productions . She recently wrote the stage show Awakening , which you can catch at The Wynn Las Vegas.
