In this episode of the Serviced Accommodation Property Podcast, host Kevin Poneskis interviews Will Parry, CEO of Altido, a hospitality management company that manages hotels and service accommodations across Western Europe. Will shares his journey and the story of Altido, as well as lessons he's learned along the way that may be useful to listeners as they grow their own businesses and portfolios.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • Altido started as a small Airbnb management company and has since grown through mergers and acquisitions, with a goal to diversify and establish an international footprint to attract potential investors and achieve an exit one day.

  • The speaker emphasizes the importance of having experienced staff and operational systems in property management, as well as building and investing in a central office to run core functions.

  • Altido is a full management operator for urban properties in Europe, but also offers services to support other businesses and individuals who don't have the time to deal with guests, marketing, and revenue management.

  • The speaker talks about how their hard work and industry connections led to a stroke of luck where they were able to buy clients from a company that had gone into administration, and how their remote team in Bulgaria has grown to 100 people.

  • The speaker discusses important factors to consider when starting a business, including diversification, passive income, ambitions, and whether the business is a lifestyle or impact business, as well as the importance of maintaining growth and managing fixed overheads, particularly for seasonal businesses.
