Today on the Spiritual Spiral Podcast, I'm thrilled to welcome drummer/musician and my friend, Adam Gust to the show. I actually met Adam almost 20 years ago after he responded to an ad I placed in Music Connection where I was looking for a drummer. Adam has played the drums on my first three records and all the music on today's episode features my own songs with Adam on drums. I realized after speaking with Adam how much I respect people and particularly men who aren't hierarchical but care more about feelings and compassion over being right, first or the best. Adam and I talk about how social media is driving the ego driven landscape of our culture and why narcissism is on an exponential rise. Adam shares stories from childhood about how he became interested in the drums, why he considers himself more of a "musician for hire" and he talks about the psychological trauma that stemmed from a hand injury which almost took away his lifelong passion and joy for the drums. He also shares some inspirational books and lessons he learned after facing and dealing with "triggers" stemming from his hand injury.
