Have you ever wondered how physicians take an idea and turn it into a product/start-up? What resources do physicians need to be able to take on these ventures and how do they find the time with their clinical duties? The road to product/start-up development can be a daunting task for one physician, but it can be very rewarding if the right connections are made early.
Today we talk to Drs. George Klein and Michael Rieder who are physicians and professors at the Schulich School of Medicine. Dr. George Klein discusses his journey in product development, specifically highlighting his experiences in creating the Implantable loop recorder. Dr. Michael Rieder discusses the challenges that he encountered when he was working on his two start-up companies: Adept Diagnostics and Pharmasees. In this episode, Drs. Klein and Rieder discuss their approaches on problem identification and how they created a solution to the problem at hand. We also learned about the challenges that they faced and how they connected with an interdisciplinary team to overcome these challenges. You won’t want to miss this exciting episode!
