Beauty product advertising bombards consumers on a daily basis. They create promises to consumers that certain products can make consumers look younger and sexier. So, when did these beauty industries invented, and how did advertisements featuring beauty products actually lower female consumers' self-esteem? For today's episode, Vanessa Preston with her co-host Reva Segnitz will discuss how advertisements took over the ideas of perfectionism to women and how has the concept of beauty changed throughout history. Stay tuned!

In this episode we cover:

  • Misleading advertisements and its impact on consumers.
  • Advertisements which provide evidence of how thinness is part of a sociocultural system.
  • History shows that standards of beauty are constantly changing.
  • Throughout history, women have been calling out for the freedom to speak.
  • Influence of advertisement on women and the attitude towards beauty and health.
  • How does social media and advertisements affect women's perception of beauty.
  • How ads normalize and support physical violence.
