We cover how to do this with board games as that is a lot easier but then use those same principles for tabletop RPG's.
Also the same tips here should be used if you come across a rule or question you aren't sure about. Many major RPG's (and fan favs) will have wiki's or discussion boards with the official errata for those odd scenarios.
Also, a good rule is if it will break the game just say no. No matter if it is in the rules or not. You are the game or dungeon master so live up to the master part of it.
