amount of wall-to-wall carpeting in my home I actually just.. 0:28 love it especially when I do things like 0:32 this in my home studio I actually love 0:34 to have carpet because it reduces the 0:36 echo so some people have carpet for a 0:38 warm cozy feeling some people have it 0:40 because they want it to be quiet in 0:43 their home but you've got to keep the 0:45 carpet cleaned on a regular basis one of 0:48 the biggest complaints that I've heard 0:51 about from homeowners is it takes too 0:53 long for that carpet to dry I have asked 0:57 an expert Eric Olson he's the owner of 1:00 safe and soft carpet cleaning in Boise 1:02 Idaho Eric how are you I'm great Joe how 1:05 are you fantastic I know you guys just 1:08 have great passion for what you do 1:10 you're a family owned and operated 1:11 carpet cleaning business in Boise Idaho 1:13 you're a co-owner of the company you and 1:16 your wife own the company yes this 1:18 question comes up all the time how long 1:20 will it take for my carpet to dry we as 1:22 homeowners are very impatient and we 1:24 have pets and we have children and we 1:26 want this to be done as quickly as 1:28 possible how long does it take for the 1:31 carpet to dry when you guys come into 1:32 the home and thoroughly clean the 1:34 carpets that is a great question but 1:36 that's a usually uh not the easiest to 1:39 answer because sometimes it varies it 1:41 depends depends on how dirty the carpet 1:43 is depends on what method we use to 1:45 clean the carpet but typically we see 1:48 with our little moisture process that 1:50 the carpets are dry within an hour a lot 1:53 of times when other people run into 1:55 other or use other carpet cleaners and 1:57 it takes you know four to eight 1:59 sometimes 24 hours 48 hours you know a 2:02 couple days it's because the the cleaner 2:05 has used the too high of a pressure and 2:07 they just have not recovered enough of 2:08 the water it's pushed it down into the 2:09 pad and their system is just not able to 2:11 recover all that water so a lot of times 2:15 as long as there's good air circulation 2:17 sometimes in basements it takes longer 2:19 but typically it's dry within an hour as 2:22 long as the temperatures are between 60 2:24 and 70 and there's good air circulation 2:26 what are the downsides to the carpet 2:28 taking longer than an hour to dry so 2:31 again another great question 2:33 um with that a lot of times it's mold 2:35 that would be an issue things that Wick 2:38 back up from underneath the carpet so a 2:41 lot of times if the carpet's left wet 2:43 for so long but as it dries the soils 2:46 underneath the carpet will sift up or 2:49 Wick back up through the carpet fibers a 2:51 lot of times the car looks dirtier than 2:53 it was when it was first cleaned and 2:56 again that's another problem with with 2:57 using too much pressure because you're a 3:00 lot of times they will push the soils 3:01 farther down into the carpet and as it 3:03 dries those soils will just Wick back up 3:05 so as long as you have the pressure 3:07 adjusted correctly and as long as you're 3:09 using a low moisture process where 3:11 you're not using as much water it's 3:13 going to dry a lot faster people notice 3:16 like that kind of musty smell when it 3:18 takes longer to dry again that's just 3:19 from the germs and bacteria in the 3:21 carpet we're growing in an environment 3:24 that that encourages that right when 3:26 you've just got too much water in there 3:28 as as well as all the other 3:30 stuff that just isn't always properly 3:33 cleaned out of the carpet you've got pet 3:34 Dand or pet accidents like pet urine all 3:37 sorts of you know spills and things like 3:39 that things that we just track in to the 3:41 home it's like when you get a an air 3:43 filter wet because your carpet really is 3:45 literally your biggest air filter in 3:48 your home it has a lot of benefits to it 3:51 but but that is one of the largest 3:52 benefits is it's your biggest air filter 3:54 in your home so like we change our HVAC 3:56 filter about every three months six 3:58 months or at least we should then we 4:01 also need to get the carpets clean uh 4:03 often enough in order to get that filter 4:06 working and so if you don't clean it out 4:08 properly and you kind of soak it down 4:09 it's just going to have kind of a gnarly 4:12 smell to it so in short you guys at safe 4:16 and soft carpet cleaning can get the 4:18 homeowners carpet cleaned well and dried 4:22 in about an hour I guess we can so again 4:25 it varies depending on the method that 4:27 we use if we're using a low moisture 4:29 method or if we're using a hot water 4:31 extraction which most people are 4:32 accustomed to typically ninety percent 4:35 of the time when we're using a low 4:36 moisture method it is dry within an hour 4:38 when we're using a hot water extraction 4:40 method it can go from two to three hours 4:43 we can accelerate that
