Today’s episode is specifically for community members who have been newly diagnosed with type one diabetes. There's no definitive cutoff of when you are no longer “newly diagnosed,” but I will say that this episode is a must-listen if you’ve been diagnosed in the last three or so years.

My co-host and guest today is Risely Health Coach Emily Peterson! Emily was diagnosed with T1D two and a half years ago and lives in the Dallas Fort Worth area with her husband Corbin. Fun fact: they're both paragliding pilots!

This is also a great episode to send to family members or partners so that they can gain more insight into what you might be going through with your new diagnosis as an adult with type one.

In this episode, we discuss…

  • The underwhelming support Emily received from her healthcare team at diagnosis
  • The main challenges we see newly diagnosed T1Ds face around their relationship to food, body, and self
  • The mindset shift Emily used to help her feel more comfortable with taking insulin
  • The most important things to focus on while you're in the beginning phases of your journey with diabetes

I do want to give a trigger warning that we do talk about weight, diets, and body image. So please skip this if you are not in a good place to explore these topics.
