Short answer: A podcast should be only as long as it needs to be to say what you want to say. Don’t put 15 minutes worth of content in a 30 minute show. Also, don’t try to stuff 30 minutes into a 20 minute show.

There is no perfect length for a podcast.

There are people out there that will tell you the perfect length of a podcast is 20 minutes or 40 minutes because “The average commute is … ” Well they are wrong.

I know people that do 3 hour shows. I know people that do 5 minute shows and every thing in between. Look at Dan Carlin and his Hardcore History podcast. He does shows that are sometimes 6 hours long. There is no right answer for everyone. Just a right answer for you and your subject for the episode.
