Sermon Outline:
CAST YOUR NET TO THE RIGHT SIDE
Scripture: John 21:1-9. John 21:5-6
Chuin aman ajah uva, "Kongsih jet lama chun len sep leu chun namat dingu ahi," ati. Hijeh chun amahon aseu le nga atama atam jeh chun akai jouta pouve.”
I. JESUS’ RELATIONSHIP WITH DISCIPLES
There are several lessons to be learned from this story, and the first is this: It is important to obey Jesus.
God puts us in situations where it seems like there is no answer.
We have tried everything.
We thought we knew what needed to be done.
This involves humility. The disciples were professional fishermen.
II. WE MEET GOD WHEN WE COME TO THE END
The disciples had been fishing all night.
They had done all they could do.
They knew the best fishing holes.
Peter was certainly at the end of his resources.
‘Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!’” (Luke 5:8).
Paul realized when he said, “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out” (Romans 7:18).
III. WE HAVE TO PUT THE NET IN WHERE THE FISH ARE.
The answer is often as close as your willingness to obey and do what God is asking.
Syrian General named Naaman
Slave girl said to his wife: “If only my master would see the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy” (2 Kings 5:3).
Naaman refused to obey and submit.
One of his servants tried to reason with him. He said, “If the prophet had told you to do some great thing, would you not have done it? How much more, then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’!” Then the Bible says, “So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy” (2 Kings 5:14).
Conclusion
Wade Hughes, Sr. tells the story of a weak and sickly man. His condition grew worse, but he could not afford a doctor. One night he had a vision. God told him to go out and push the massive rock in front of his home all day long, day aft er day, until he told him to stop.
It is when you push against the rock that you become strong — whether the rock moves or not. It is when you obey and cast your net on the other side that the net is filled, and a way is opened up for deeper fellowship with Jesus.
Summary: It is important to listen to Jesus and obey him. 2. We meet God when we come to the end of our resources. 3. You have to put your net in where the fish are.
