Phones aren’t just detracting us from the present; they have a much more profound effect on our happiness.
When we’re on our phones and not being in the moment, or when we’re multi-tasking work and talking to a friend, we’re half-assing both things. This affects our future. How ? If you never help your kid with their homework, or never know what they're working on in school, can you be AS proud at their graduation? Can you understand the end result as empathically?
If you walk into a movie 20 late, only receiving part of the plot, can you truly APPRECIATE the outcome of the story at the end? If there are holes in our present because we’re on our phones, then the future won’t be as impactful because we will have missed integral parts.
To summarize, not only do our phones take us away from the present, but as a function of that, they detract from our future.
