Best to start with Debit and Credit spreads

When to use

Debit, get into a trade at a cheaper price. Called “legging in” in some circles

Starting with a small account

Good reason to believe price is moving in a particular direction

Lowers risk, caps gains

Credit, making money in a sideways market

Collect money up front

Also great for small accounts

Good reason to believe price moving in opposite directions

Intraday action against major trend, selling against intraday in support of major trend

I love spreads. Nice slow way to build a small account. If price action for the stocks in your watchlist don’t match you entry criteria, it’s a great way to respect your rules and still earn some money while you wait for your perfect set up
