p.20 TRIAL 20 エクササイズ During the twentieth century, the death rate declined very rapidly. From 1950-1955, 60% of the world's population lived in countries where the life expectancy was lower than 50 years, while only 1% lived in countries with a life expectancy of 70 years or higher. The 1950s marked a turning point for developing countries, because of the widespread use of antibiotics, vaccines and insecticides. By 2005-2010, the world population with a life expectancy of at least 70 years reached 57%. This shows how the lives of people in most regions of the world have improved. The gap between less developed countries and more developed countries has narrowed. However, there is still about 5% of the world population who live in countries with a life expectancy below 50 years.
