Oliver Costa suggested to read the novel „La vie devant soi“ by Romain Gary (1914-1980 ) who published it under the pen-name "Emile Ajar". It was originally published in English as „Momo" translated by Ralph Manheim, then re-published in 1986 as The Life Before Us. There are several editions available.
