After this summer and the George Floyd protest, racial justice is now a major topic of mainstream discussion, with major companies conducting anti-racism trainings, and conversely, Trump banning diversity trainings within the government, citing them as racist against white people. But how do we translate this heightened literacy and awareness of racial justice issues into action instead of just theory? In other words, how do you get people to care?
In this episode, return guest Simone, the host of the Nice to Meet You Podcast, joins us to talk about how we can promote more caring in our society, both from a political and relational perspective. Millennials are often so afraid that in any given relationship, they will be the one to give too much, to text back first, to do the dishes every time, and so we relate this desire to have an 'abundance' mindset both to privilege in a political sense, to encourage us to do more by thinking we have more metaphorical privilege points in the bank, but also to revolutionize our social relationships, and not be so afraid to be the one who gives more in any given relationship, so long as you maintain a clear sense of your own boundaries and communicate them proactively. Maybe if we as individuals and a society can shift from this scarcity to abundance mindset, we can set off more proactive chain reactions that can accelerate our progress towards a more caring, less apathetic world.
