Diverse Voices Book Review host Hopeton Hay interviewed Lan Samanatha Chang, author of the novel THE FAMILY CHAO. THE FAMILY CHAO is a drama about a Chinese American family in the Midwest, and the conflict between the eldest son and the father over inheritance and control of the family restaurant. Chang said the novel was inspired in part by the classic late nineteenth century novel THE BROTHERS KARAMAZOV by Fyodor Dostoyevski and her experiences growing up in a Chinese American family in Wisconsin.
