This is a story you don’t usually hear. Imagine your husband…the love of your life attempting suicide and surviving. The emotions and fallout from this one event are life-changing and devastating, to say the least.

That’s what happened to my guest Karen Nowicki.

Karen talks about how she was shocked that this occurred, as was everyone who knew her hubby. The fall-out for her family was horrific, but what shifted for Karen was that she started journaling to break free of the shame and share the journey that her family was on. She got huge backlash from some family members for sharing this, and even fought it in herself as this was a big “ask” from God! This decision cost her some relationships, yet it was something she knew she had to do it.

She shares the struggles she’s gone through and is still going through. Karen has used this as a personal growth + transformational journey.

And one of the main themes of this episode is about receiving. As a result of this event, Karen had to rely on many, many people to help pick up the pieces. As you will hear in her story, the receiving has been excruciating in some ways because there was such an outpouring of love that she had difficulty taking in.

As I say in the show, you may not have survived something like this, but we ALL have had some tragedy or place in our lives where we can expand our receiving muscle!

Karen is sharing this story because mental health and particularly mental illness and suicide/attempts need to be normalized as it’s so stigmatized right now. Karen is a warrior who has been through the unimaginable and has been an advocate for truth and transparency. In fact, as a result of her sharing the journey she was on, six people have reached out to her and shared that they or someone they loved decided to NOT take their lives.

This is a very special, and very “real” episode from an amazingly courageous woman.
