Sylvia Plath scholar Emily Van Duyne (@EmilyVanDuyne) is here to discuss the complex and interlinked legacies of Ted Hughes and Sylvia Plath.
CONTENT WARNINGS: suicide (obviously), physical abuse, adultery.
Normally I give a quick bullet points of what we discuss in the episode, but it's here that I have to say: we discuss everything. Legacy, outsider-ism, choice, American vs British politics, sexual politics, and criticism and the nature of art. There are more laughs than you think.

TED HUGHES was an English poet, translator, playwright, and children's author, best known, possibly, as being the husband of Sylvia Plath at the time of her death. Often writing with deep natural symbolism, Hughes's life was inextricably linked with Plath's legacy for the 30+ years he lived on after her. His career was managed by his sister, Olwyn Hughes, and he maintained primary control over Plath's estate, publishing rights, and legacy. Hughes was named Poet Laureate of Britain in 1984 and held the office until his death in 1998.
