Think of a famous event that happened in your lifetime. Often you’ll remember exactly where you were, and what was happening around you. You’ll remember what was going on in your heart, in your life.

Our human tendency is to forget. Things that happen in our lifetime are important, and things that happened before we were born are “ancient history.”

Jesus, through His death, frees us, but He is also leading us onwards. There is a goal, a destination beyond just freedom. The Israelites were to celebrate Passover every year forever. He knew that they would need the reminder, they would forget otherwise.

Wherever we find ourselves, we need to remember. Remember the God that we serve, and the sacrifice that He made for us. How do we remember? Art has been used to help people remember great moments in history.

This morning let us remember. Having a celebration without remembering is not ideal. What should we remember at communion? What did Jesus do… and why did He do it…

We can’t understand the depth of love that was required for Jesus to give His life on the cross. It is easy for us to cast stones at Peter and say our love for Christ is more than Peter’s was, the simple reality is that none of us have been tested like Peter was.

The why behind Jesus dying on the cross… the why is me, the why is you.

Our human tendency is to forget. This morning as we take celebrate communion, let us remember what Jesus did, and why He did it.

Scriptures used – Judges, Exodus 12, Matthew 16:24, Psalm 147:4-6, Joshua 24, 2 Chronicles 30, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26, Romans 5:7-8, John 15:13, John 21:15-17, 1 John 4, Luke 22:18-20
