Essentials of Psychological Safety
Manage episode 306397362 series 2923058
Understanding psychological safety is your new stealth tool to effective team work and having a high performance design career.
- The foundation of being able to work effectively (and innovatively) is to first build trust. Trust comes when everyone feels supported doing meaningful work, comfortable sharing their ideas, can fail without feeling like a failure and feels included.
- We all bring our own story and meanings to the way we interpret the world. It's important to become more conscious of our own and others' tendency to do this so that we can communicate more effectively
- Practice active listening, instead of just waiting to make your own points.
- Teamwork is about letting go of individual inputs and outputs in favor of focusing collectively on the outcomes. This means balancing the expansiveness of the beginner's mind with the reductive power of expertise.
- Always make others feel appreciated and included by specifically noticing how their contributions helped the team succeed.
