Özyeğin Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Fakültesi Türk Edebiyatı öğretim görevlisi Çimen Günay-Erkol ile "Othello'da Erkeklik Ve Kıskançlık" konusunda psikanaliz, edebiyat ve erkeklik çalışmaları metinleriyle W. Shakespeare'in Othello'su üzerinde yapılan bir çalışma gerçekleştirdik. Othello’da Kıskançlık ve Erkeklik Bu programda Shakespeare’in Othello adlı oyunundaki erkeklik temsillerini kıskançlık ve iktidar temaları çerçevesinde tartışacağız. Othello, bir savaş dehası olan ve cesaretiyle Venedikli soyluların takdirini toplamış siyah Berberi bir askerin kıskançlığın pençesinde kendisini yok etmesini anlatır. Iago, çıkarları uğruna, aldatıldığı vehmine kapılması için Othello’ya çeşitli oyunlar hazırlar. Iago’nun yalanlarına kanan Othello, giderek düşünemez hale gelir, oyunun sonunda suçsuz karısını boğar ve intihar eder. Programda Othello’nun Venedik toplumundaki “öteki”liği, genç karısı ile olan ilişkisinin temelindeki arzunun metaforik anlamları, Iago’nun kötücüllüğü gibi unsurlar ele alınarak Shakespeare’in oyunda sunduğu erkeklik temsilleri tartışmaya açılacaktır. Envy and Masculinity in Othello In this episode, we will discuss the representations of masculinity in Othello around themes such as envy and hegemony. Othello is about the self-annihilation of a man with envy. Othello is a brave black general, a Moor military genius who earned the recognition of Venetian elites. Iago, for his advantage, tricks Othello into the suspicion that his wife is cheating on him. Falling for this trap, Othello gradually loses his ability to think, and finally in the end of the play, he kills his innocent wife and commits suicide. In this episode, we will discuss representations of masculinity provided by Shakespeare in the play following certain elements such as Othello’s “otherness” in the Venetian society, the metaphorical meanings of lust in his relation with his young wife and Iago’s demonic manners.
