Good Tourist Spots in Russia
Andrei
= a man’s name (Note: Actually, Joe misspoke here. “Andrea” is a woman’s name in some countries.)

= a 2017 movie, and a long-running American TV series which is now available on DVD
Orenburg
= Elena’s hometown. A Russian city close to the board with Kazakhstan, about 1,500 km. south of Moscow. It has a population about half that of Hiroshima City. The Ural River goes through the city, with one side of the river being in Asia, and the other side being in Europe. A beautiful bridge only for pedestrians （歩行者）crosses the river.
The Dead Sea
= a large body of water between Israel and Jordan. It is almost 10 times saltier per liter than the Pacific Ocean.
Sol’-lletsk
= a small town near Orenburg, featuring a large salty lake called “Razval.” It’s saltiness is similar to that of the Dead Sea. The mineral waters and salt in the public baths nearby are said to be good for the skin.

Sochi
= a city located on the Black Sea. The 2014 Winter Olympics took place in the mountains nearby. But the city itself has a warm climate, so tourists like to go there for the beaches even in winter.

St. Petersburg
= the second largest city in Russia, with 6 million people. It is a port on the Baltic Sea. It is also known as Russia’s cultural capital, because of its fine museums and international atmosphere.

Russia’s Golden Ring
= eight cities near Moscow, featuring historical spots, nature, tasty Russian food, and more. Some of the cities are Yuriev-Polsky, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, and Vladimir.
Moscow
= the capitol with over 13 million people.
Red Square
= the central place in Moscow next to the Kremlin (government headquarters). The square also has a very popular ice skating rink.
Kaliningrad
= a city on the Baltic Sea with a lot of history and a little less than 500,000 people.
Soviet heritage
= culture from the 20th century’s Soviet Union.
