Paul Sanders is a landscape photographer based in Kent, England. Paul is a former picture editor for the Times newspaper, a job that engulfed his life and, in his words, made him lose touch with reality. When the demands of the job forced him to step away, Paul looked to landscape photography to help rediscover a balance in his life and he now specialises in mindful landscape photography, an approach that emphasises slowing down and focusing on the process of creating the photograph rather than on the photograph itself. This approach has resonated with a lot of people and Paul now runs mindful photography workshops and retreats for his own ‘Discover Still’ brand and also for leading photography workshop company Ocean Capture.
Our conversation delves into Paul’s backstory at the Times which really gives context for the landscape work he’s doing now. We also talk about his approach to his work, imposter syndrome, shooting in a square format and much more. I really enjoyed talking with Paul and I appreciate his openness in our conversation.
