In the main segment, hosts Jamie Lowell and Rick Thompson interview Michael Thompson. Once considered America's longest-serving cannabis prisoner, Thompson's case caught the attention of Kim Kardashian and Shaun King. Celebrities and politicians called for his release. After meeting with the Cannabis Caucus of the Michigan Democratic Party, the state's attorney general Dana Nessel wrote an impassioned plea for Thompson's release. In December 2020 Governor Gretchen Whitmer granted Thompson clemency; he was released from prison in late January, 2021. His appearance on Jazz Cabbage took place just weeks after his release.
Mr. Thompson speaks about the horrible conditions in the prison system; the haunting voices he hears from those still incarcerated; the people who helped get him out; and the wonderful things he's accomplished since that cold January morning. He revealed for the first time that he believes his arrest was retribution by Flint law enforcement and prosecutor for his work quelling violence in the city.
Appearing with Michael Thompson were Debra Young; Ryan Basore of Redemption Cannabis and The Redemption Foundation; Mike McCurdy of the Cannabis Caucus and the Clemency Project; Colin MacDougall and Jim Salame of The Entheo Show; and Roech from Medical Mondays podcast.
Also on this show: an interview with Bob Doge, owner of UBaked Cannabis cultivation center in Genesee County, Michigan. UBaked has been the donor of over 4,ooo joints given free to people who've taken the COVID-19 vaccine. The Pot for Shots program is in operation at The Greenhouse of Walled Lake. Jazz Cabbage Café interviewed owner Jerry Millen in Season 5 Episode 8.
Also: Jim Salame and Jamie Lowell revealed details about the upcoming, all-digital Hash Bash 2021. Sponsorship positions are available to regulated industry members and ancillary industries. Contact information is given during the broadcast. Musical guests ill include Laith Al-Saadi performing the Star Spangled Banner, a Hash Bash favorite.
Mike McCurdy talked about the Michigan Clemency Project, Colin updated everyone on The Entheo Show's broadcast schedule, and Jamie teased some of the potential upcoming guests he has lined up for March.
