In this episode Tom and Dave from the Alabama Football Podcast break down the Tide’s Home Opener Against New Mexico State.

Offensive Line

Landon Dickerson assumed duties at Center, putting five players with experience playing tackle across the front. An athletic lot to be sure. However, the Tide still struggled at times to move the line of scrimmage. How does Saban really feel about this and how/when do we expect this to improve?

Manufactured Run Game

Despite struggles moving the line of scrimmage, the Tide still surpassed 300 yards rushing. Of course 149 of those game on two plays and the top backs combined for a solid day’s work.

New Look Secondary

Alabama opened the game in dime personnel, not a big surprise against a component who passes 70% of the time, but the unit’s composition drew our attention. True freshman Jordon Battle teamed with reserve Daniel Wright to man the safety positions, creating a ripple that saw Jarod Maydin at Star and Patrick Surtain ll back at corner with Josh Jobe and Shy Carter observing from the sidelines. This grouping placed 4 safety-types on the field whereas the prior week’s starting dime consisted of 4 corner-types.

Mini Game balls

Anyone can read a headline, but which players contributed in more subtle ways to the Tide’s fortune?
